Practice Hospitality

Make room. Open your table. Welcome someone in.

Make room. Open your table. Welcome someone in.

God has invited us into a family — not because we had everything together, but because He made room for us. Now He invites us to do the same. Romans 12:13 says: “When God’s people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality.” Hospitality is not just for people who love hosting parties, have a perfect home, or know exactly what they’re doing. Hospitality is simply choosing to see people, serve people, and make room for people. Don’t let perfect keep you from practicing hospitality.

Your Challenge: Host a Summer Cookout

The early church was built around tables. It was around kitchen tables that strangers became friends, outsiders became family, and people discovered the love of Jesus. This summer, we want to challenge you to do the same. Invite people to your table. Share a meal. Create space for conversation. Get to know someone you might not know very well. It doesn’t have to be fancy. It doesn’t have to be Instagram-worthy. It just has to be intentional.

Here’s the challenge: ☑️ Invite at least 6 people 3 friends you want to spend more time with 3 neighbors you don’t know very well ☑️ Host a simple cookout or meal ☑️ Don’t worry about an agenda. Just be present. You don’t have to invite them to church. You don’t have to have all the answers. Just open your home and make room.

Hosting people can feel overwhelming, so we want to help make it a little easier. If you’re taking the challenge to practice hospitality, we’d love to help provide part of the meal. Sign up below to receive hamburger patties and buns for your cookout — enough to help you gather people around your table. Whether you’re hosting longtime friends, neighbors you’re just getting to know, or people who could use an invitation, this is a simple way to create space for connection.

You provide the table. We’ll help provide the meal.

Getting Started

“We’re having some people over for a cookout next week. We’d love for you to come join us.” “We’ve been trying to get to know our neighbors better. Would you want to come over for dinner sometime?” “No pressure and nothing fancy — we’re just grilling some food and hanging out. We’d love to have you.” “We’ve realized we don’t know each other very well, and we’d love to change that.”

“What’s something you’ve been enjoying lately?” (A show, hobby, trip, book, restaurant, anything.) “What’s something you’re looking forward to?” (Creates space for hopes, dreams, and what matters to people.) “What’s something you wish people knew about you?” (A simple question that often leads to deeper connection.) “What’s something that has shaped who you are today?” (A great way to hear someone’s story.)

Romans 12:13 “When God’s people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality.” Hospitality isn’t just a personality trait — it’s part of following Jesus. Hebrews 13:2 “Don’t forget to show hospitality to strangers…” God often works through the moments when we make room for people we don’t know well. 1 Peter 4:9 “Cheerfully share your home with those who need a meal or a place to stay.” Hospitality is an expression of generosity and love. Luke 10:38-42 The story of Jesus visiting Mary and Martha. Jesus reminds us that being present with people matters more than creating the perfect experience.
